Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11:1, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ”. My problem with this verse is that we, the Christians of today, have become imitators of the world instead of imitators of Christ. ¡Awww! I know... you don't like this, but its the truth. Ours is a society of “I”... what do I, what do I want to do, what is convenient for me, etc. The big problem with this is that there is not a big difference between many Christians and the ungodly when it comes to this mentality of “I”.
God tells us through Paul in Philippians 2:3, “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself". And commands in Mark 12:31 that we must love our neighbor as ourselves.
Why is this “I” mentality so dangerous? Because it is up to us, as children of God Almighty, to love our neighbor, and if we love him, we will want them to have what we have: SALVATION. Yet, we are doing ¡¡¡¡NOTHING!!!! We are keeping that precious gift to ourselves with the mentality of "I am saved. nothing else matters".
On the contrary, my beloved, us up to us to take the Gospel to every corner of the Earth. There is a population of people with a direct passage to hell. Where is the passion for the lost? Where is the urgency to bring more people to the feet of Christ?
Prayer: Lord, forgive me for having a selfish mentality. Help me to imitate You. And help me to think of my neighbor and to love them as You love me. Turn the fire and passion in me to seek the lost and teach them who You are. Create in me an urgency to take the gospel to where You send me. AMEN.
