"Is this not the fast which I choose, To loosen the bonds of wickedness, To undo the bands of the yoke, And to let the oppressed go free And break every yoke? 7 "Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry And bring the homeless poor into the house; When you see the naked, to cover him; And not to hide yourself from your own flesh? 8 "Then your light will break out like the dawn, And your recovery will speedily spring forth; And your righteousness will go before you; The glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
We consume so much. We become more selfish every day. Please, O God, give us the courage to turn from the tyranny of constantly satisfying our earthly desires. Turn our attention to You and Your idea of justice and service. Do it through us, Your church. Heal our land.
“For you have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.”
We cannot excel at duties surrounding religion without Your help. But apart from your Spirit we can do nothing that pleases You, nothing that lasts. Do a new work of Your Spirit in Your people. Give us the joy of serving, pursuing justice, extending mercy and grace. Train us to be faithful in Your purpose.
