Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. (Luke 12:7)
As we start the week, let's remember that even when things seem to be spiraling out of control God is aware of everything and ready to help us through it.
But even knowing this truth we need to choose to believe it and not just quote it. Make the decision to focus on God and how He has worked in the past and still works in our lives today.
He says to us:
"For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you." Isaiah 41:13
JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT
"And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son." 2 Kings 4:36
Today let's pray for you!
Is there anything that needs resurrecting in your life? What once-received promise seems to have died in you? What hope, dream or ministry lays dormant? Elisha promised the sterile woman a son, the promise came, and the child lay dead on the prophet's bed.
Just when she thought she would never have a child...the Lord gave her one.
Just when she thought that child would bring her joy for many years, he died.
Just when she thought he was gone, the prophet hands him to her: "Take up thy son."
What "son" do you need brought back to life. Passion? Anointing? Saving souls? Joy?
As Elisha spread himself on the body of the dead boy, spread the word of God over your dormant promise, and believe God will restore it!
Waiting for seven sneezes...
AND THE OIL STAYED!
"And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed." II Kings 4:6
As long as there was an empty vessel, the oil flowed.
When all the vessels were full, the oil stopped. There was no reason for it to flow.
Could it be that we become stagnant, that the oil "stays" when there is reason for it to flow?
One of the beauties of the Strategy of Jesus is that the Life Groups continue to bring empty vessel - whether to cell or celebration - empty and God-hungry lives ensure that the anointing continues to be poured out in the life of the church.
How wonderful it is when "new" people receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost!
How encouraging when another empty vessel gets filled with the presence of God.
This coming Sunday, or to your next Life Group meeting, bring vessels, not a few.
FROM BEING BLESSED TO BECOMING A BLESSOR
"Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few." II Kings 4:3
I see three necessary steps needed to graduate from a "blessee" to a "blessor." Of course it is easier to be blessed. We hold out the pot and ask, beg, pray, sing or praise God to fill it. We even sing nice songs: "Here's my cup Lord, I lift it up Lord, come and quench this thirsting of my soul. Bread of heaven, or oil, or money" — we lift it up Lord, fill it! Actually it is a nice "corito" and I'm sure there are times when it is appropriate to sing it. However,
What if we ALL become "blessors"?
1. The prophet sais "Go". A blessor must be willing to take action, to move.
2. Borrow vessels. What do these represent? These are lives, empty lives of people that you have the opportunity to bless. How? A smile, a prayer, an offering, a word of encouragement.
3. Borrow not a few - the more vessels we are willing to bless, the longer the oil will flow!
Look for 5 people to bless today!
How long has it been since you "Poured Out"?
"So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out." II Kings 4:5
Yesterday we shut the door behind us to be alone in the presence of God.
Today we see why it's so important. It is an opportunity to "pour out," to empty ourselves in His presence. In the Old Testament Hannah did it. Look at the I Samuel 1:10-16 language:
- "bitterness of soul"
- "wept sore"
- "look at the affliction"
- "spake in her heart..only her lips moved"
- "sorrowful spirit"
- "but have poured out my soul before the Lord"
- "abundance of my complaint and grief"
Ask yourself: "Really, when was the last time I did that? The result: God granted her the desire of her soul.
Finding the time to "pour out" today...
PLEASE SHUT THE DOOR.
"And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons" II Kings 4:4
“Please shut the door”
Rings, louder rings, obnoxious rings. Tones. Tunes. iTunes.
iPhones, iPads, iPods, Blackberries, Droids. Tweets. Instagram. Snapchat. Periscope. etc.
Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T.
Texts, emails, Noise. Technological chatter, clutter, e-traffic.
Radios, televisions, DVD’s, Blue Rays, High Def, High Res, LCD. Wii, X-box.
It seems like everyone is calling – and calling at the same time. Emergency, urgent, can’t wait. You have to see, listen, hear, and try, this and that. It never stops.
Again he whispers: “Please shut the door”
Today, I invite you, no, He invites you: “Please shut the door. Give me your attention.” My Father works in the peace and quiet once you shut the door.
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” Matthew 6:6
And He will judge between many peoples And render decisions for mighty, distant nations. Then they will hammer their swords into plowshares And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they train for war.
We are powerless to quell the feuds that rage among the nations. Thus we come before You, God of all nations. Only when You rise to rule will the nations find rest from war. We do not know when, but we trust that You will. Your promise encourages us to begin this work of peace everyday, where we are, as we can and in Your power. Disarm our hearts to move towards people, dismantle grievances, reconcile distances and bring peace. Walk with us and train us in Your ways of peace.
"But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, the sinner!' 14 "I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."
Our Savior, let the cry of this tax collector be the heart cry of those in our city that are far from you. Let it be the prayer of all nations, all peoples, all cultures. Release Your hopes and dreams for every nation as they fix their hope on You and bring them peace.
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, And all the families of the nations will worship before You. 28 For the kingdom is the LORD'S And He rules over the nations.
How long, O Lord, until You fulfill Your promise to be known in every nation? We know that when you return You will set all things right. You are worthy of praise from every people, language and place. You deserve that kind of glory. You are that good. Even today, you draw worship from every people. Gather those who love you in every city. Give them courage to honor You openly, especially in places where that is dangerous.
Now there were some Greeks among those who were going up to worship at the feast. These then came to Philip… and began to ask him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
People from every nation are eagerly seeking to worship what is true. Their hearts are longing for meaning and substance. Many have exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worship the created things rather than You, the Creator. The truth is only found in you, Our Father. Help us to fulfill our role in global evangelism and discipleship. Only You can accomplish a task so large. Train us by Your grace.
"Thus says the LORD of hosts, 'It will yet be that peoples will come, even the inhabitants of many cities. 21 'The inhabitants of one will go to another, saying, "Let us go at once to entreat the favor of the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts; I will also go." 22 'So many peoples and mighty nations will come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem and to entreat the favor of the LORD.'
Only You, O God, can trigger chain reactions of people to move toward You with faith and passion. Draw more than just a few scattered people. We ask you to move among whole cities. Start with ours. Fulfill Your promise in our day by igniting city-wide movements.
The whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”
Jesus, our Redeemer, as you shook the culture and expectations of cities in your earthly ministry, do so again today in ours. Many times, you set the entire city buzzing with questions and conversations about You. Stir the hearts of our people to the know the truth of who You really are.
Psalm 65:2, 5
O You who hear prayer, To You all men come. 5 By awesome deeds You answer us in righteousness, O God of our salvation, You who are the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas.
You always hear. Nothing escapes your attention. You respond with great love and attention. Today, we ask again for you to continue to be Yourself, O God, the hearer and responder to our prayers. Move powerfully as we intercede for our city and for individuals. Work your grace. Do more than we ask.
…the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen, 38 shouting: "BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"
Lord, Jesus, each of Your miracles in the Bible was in some way an answer to prayer. In our city, during this season, outdo Yourself by answering our prayers in miraculous ways. Enable us to pray with empathy, faith and boldness. Show Your kindness and power so that we can celebrate as Your disciples did, with loud, raucous joy.
